Kitchen WIP

I've got the fever.  Spring cleaning fever, that is.  There's so much in my life that needs decluttered right now that I'm not able to fix, so I started to tackle the house.  I painted the kitchen last summer and replaced cabinet knobs, but hadn't done anything else since.

Some of you may remember when I said I was going to buy a dishwasher to go into the cavernous hole in the kitchen.  Since I rarely use a dishwasher, I decided the money spent for that would be better used elsewhere, so I went to Plan B.

A buddy put in a shelf for me so I can still use the space.

Who knew that putting a dish drainer on a shelf could be such a wonderful thing?  It's off my counter - yea! The shelf is on drawer rollers and there's still plenty of room to store other junk underneath.

I found this piece of fabric while I was cleaning and tossing stuff, and it was the right size to cover the space with.  I simply made a pocket at the top to slip a tension rod into and called it good.  I still need to hem the bottom (it's just pinned for now).

No, it's not the most beautiful solution, but I think it was a pretty creative use of the space.  And it's chickens - woot!

So that's my work-in-progress for the house.  Come join my readers and I on other WIP journeys by clicking Rosie's photo below.

I have an egg collecting apron of that fabric! I love the idea! And storage space is ALWAYS a plus...

It looks really nice!!
I have to say that I got spoiled on the first day in our new home and having a dishwasher. I've never had one before! I am so loving doing a load in the evening, putting them away in the morning, and just filling it for the new day.
I have to admit that I already know that if it quits working, I will be saving to replace it.

Sometimes a curtain is the only way to go! I have curtains for 2 different closets that are too tight to have a real door (I hate those dumb bifold things) and at the top of a set of stairs to keep the heat from all just wooshing up to the second floor. Great idea!
