Who is the Writer Today?

Writers are often thought of as sheltered individuals, hunched over a typewriter with little outside contact with the real world.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

With the social avenues on the internet today, writers are no longer cloistered in dark cabins where their only friend is the dog at their feet, or stacked in a room full of clanging typewriters and ringing phones, with an editor breathing down their neck.

Online writing venues available to anyone that knows how to turn on a computer allow them to write what they want/when they want, and also provide the means to interact with their peers in ways never before imaginable.  Some keep a rigid schedule and write full-time, others snatch a few minutes to whip out an article while the kids are napping.

All have big hearts.

Writers on Associated Content recently took on a challenge to use their writing skills to help their neighbors in need.  They wrote articles about how to help in their communities and ways to help if you don't have funds; some wrote human interest stories of the hardships faced by the unemployed.  More than a few donated monetarily and with tangibles like canned goods and toiletries for their local shelters and food banks.

Read more about these writers joining hands to help others (you'll help just by reading).

Marie Anne pledges to donate a portion of her monthly earnings from her freelance writing to help others in her community.  You can help by reading any of her works that may interest you here.

I just finished writing and posting a short piece on my blog and on Facebook. Some of us writers feel the compulsion at any given time or place, and we MUST get our words out. Blessings to all who speak truth into the world

Hello from a fellow writer :)

We writers do get some funny stereotypes...

I wish I wrote in a dark cabin...I like the woods! :)
