Thrifty New Year Traditional Meals

It's hard to believe that the end of the year is upon us and tomorrow we'll wake up to 2012.  I may or may not wait up for the ball to drop tonight, but I'm not planning any partying or other festivities, just a quiet evening at home.

I think I'll make a big pot of chili today and serve over rice and top with shredded cheese.  I'll make extra rice to go with the black eyed peas I'll fix tomorrow that are a tradition in many households on New Year's Day.  Both meals are cheap as well as easy to fix so I won't be stuck in the kitchen, but will fill the belly with comfort food on a cold day.

What traditions does your family follow at New Years?  How do they compare to other New Year's Traditions Around the Globe?

From my home to yours, may your 2012 be filled with blessings and prosperity.

We always have ham on New Years but I think that's just our tradition and nothing global about it.
Happy New Year.
