Monday Missives - Great Expectations

I'm linking to a new blog hop with a weekly theme - Group Blogging Experience 2.  To join in, make any post  on your blog this week follow the theme, then post your link below.  Feel free to grab the link for the blog hop and attach it to your post too.  This week's word is expectations.

Life is full of great expectations, but how often are they fulfilled?  If my own experiences are any true indication, almost never.

I've lowered my expectations so many times in my life that you'd throw your back out doing the limbo trying to get under them, yet still someone manages to lower that bar for me further still.  My needs are simple, yet still go unfulfilled.

  • I don't need a fancy house, just one that isn't falling down around me.
  • I don't need a high-paying job, just one that doesn't result in more stress than what the payout is worth.
  • I don't need a man to take care of me, just someone to be a friend, and above all, be honest.

Why are these things still so elusive?  My expectations can't go any lower, so I guess I'll just quit expecting anything at all.

Living in the moment is probably the best thing anyway. Great post.

I too have had some expectations go unfulfilled. I just try to focus on the ones that have and take one day at a time. I enjoyed reading your post!! Cheers, Jenn

I hear ya on doing the limbo. I wrote a silly poem a couple of years ago titled "Lowered Expectations" which had a reverse fairytale theme to it.

Maybe it takes giving up expectations for them to start winging your way? The world has a habit of being contrary that way :)

Awwww....sad, but I think that many of us (including me) can sometimes relate to this!

Great blog!

I feel ya on this. I'm trying to take things as they come more, and have fewer expectations. It's tough, but still I'm trying. Hearts in Fur Coats

I get disappointed sometimes but I set very high expectations knowing there is a chance I won't achieve them. For me, setting goals and having expectations keeps me feeling alive and like I have something to look forward to.Granted I get bummed once in a while but for the most part, I amaze myself at what I can accomplish when I set my mind to it.

I tend to expect everything to go well, to fall right into place just when I need it to, and that everything will work out dandy. I'm not sure, but that may be the definition of crazy. ;O)

When it gets right down to it, it is not what we want that matters, it is what we have. Expectations help keep things in perspective as long as one can balance the reality with the expectation and find happiness. Great post!!

Maybe it's time to raise the bar again! Yours is too low. Mine is too high, and yet I have the same problems – losing my home, no income, and no man who even meets, let alone exceeds, my expectations. Hmm. Something to think about. Thanks.

I love your simplicity!!!

Limbo reference - humorous, but sad.

Your expectations do indeed seem simple enough, but they definitely touch on the big pictures in life, huh? Home, work and romance - three major themes to think about!

See you next week. :)

Sorry to hear that your expectations haven't meshed with reality. Your needs seem simple enough. Please don't give up hope. I've found that as I live in the moment, people and ideas come along just when I need them.

Marie Anne, Marines don't quit, or at least that what's the one I know always say. Anyway deep down you're not really giving up on those expectations, they're still down there, and they'll be met, you'll see.
