Guest Post - Starting a Website

Thanks to guest blogger, Arthur Lawrence, for this post.

Jackie, our resident developer, agreed to sit down the other day and teach me a few things about building a website. The reason I had asked her to help me was that I was determined to put up a family website where my family could share pictures and post comments on each other's images since we all live all over the country.

Jackie was great and walked me through the entire process, from researching domain names at www.domainnames.com to selecting a hosting package that made sense for such a small venture to even securing private registration so that our personal information wouldn't be readily available.

I'm still not that great at coding up images and text, but I'm getting there, slowly but surely with Jackie's help. I definitely know more than anyone else in my family though, which makes me the resident expert… How's that for an oxymoron!

My mom can't wait for the site to be finished, and I'm hoping to have it done by the family reunion coming up at the end of summer.

That's a neat idea. Quite frankly, I didn't even know that you could make 'private' websites for family, or any reason... That is cool!
