Timeless Tea and Toast

Does eating certain foods trigger memories for you?  Tea and toast does for me.

I drink a cup of tea every morning and when not eating fresh eggs from my girls, will sometimes have toast for breakfast.  Most days it will be with jelly and/or peanut butter and occasionally a banana, but once in a while I'll opt for just butter on my toast and it never fails to remind me of my childhood.

We didn't eat a lot of cereal growing up, but there was always bread in the house so toast and tea was a quick breakfast for the five kids (Mom was Irish so of course tea was a given).  Plain ol' toast with good butter is just as yummy to me today as it was years ago, perhaps because of the memories as much as the taste.  My brother says he still eats buttered toast washed down with a cup of tea every morning.

I guess some things really are timeless.

I'm taking the A-Z Blogging Challenge, where I will post something from each letter of the alphabet on the corresponding day in April, except for Sunday, on (hopefully) all four of my blogs. You can see my other blogs in the sidebar - More of Marie Anne.

My mom used to make that for us, too. Just regular Lipton's tea with buttered toast. We'd sometimes dip the toast in the tea.

I like tea and toast, too. Any day is good, but it's especially nice if I'm sick.

The food that triggers memories for me is a root beet float. My grandmother always made these for our "movie" nights. Vanilla ice cream with coke...yummy and I love the memories.

It certainly is amazing the things that stick with us.

Tea and toast - the staple of life! ;-)

Why does toast made on a toasting fork in front of a roaring fire taste so much better than the pop-up variety? (sigh) ....reminds me of tea with my Nana, as a child!

(the A-Z may be winding down, but I'm still discovering new blogs, like yours!)

SueH I refuse to go quietly!
