Amish Quilt Giveaway - Brought to You by the Letter Q

Last Year's Prize Quilt,
Compliments of Cindy Woodsmall

When I joined the A-Z Blogging Challenge, I knew some letters would be, well ... more of a challenge than others.  As it turns out, an idea for the letter Q fell right into my lap.  While looking at web pages of my favorite Christian authors, I landed on one that is offering a giveaway of an Amish quilt - how cool is that?

New York Times best-selling author Cindy Woodsmall now lives in Georgia but has ties to the Amish and Mennonite communities from her childhood days in Maryland.  Cindy sponsors a sweepstakes on her site where she gives away an authentic Amish-made quilt to one lucky winner each year.  The limit of one entry per person makes the odds of winning the quilt the same for all qualified entrants.

Cindy's published books to date had been works of fiction, but she recently teamed up with Miriam Flaud, an Old Order Amish friend, to put pen to non-fiction.  Plain Wisdom: An invitation into an Amish Home and the Hearts of Two Women was released last month.

Interestingly enough, Cindy has also published a trilogy that fits the letter of the day - Sisters of the Quilt - which includes When the Heart Cries, When the Morning Comes, and When the Soul Mends.

The contest for the quilt runs through the end of the year, but head on over there before you forget. Good luck!

I'm taking the A-Z Blogging Challenge, where I will post something from each letter of the alphabet on the corresponding day in April, except for Sunday, on (hopefully) all four of my blogs. You can see my other blogs in the sidebar - More of Marie Anne.

I spent a few years in Pennsylvania, and I am partial to the Amish country. In fact, I took my first honeymoon in Pennsylvania Dutch country, enjoying watching people live simply off the land and with each other. This sounds like a wonderful giveaway.

I don't sew, so I have never made a quilt, but I've always been fascinated by the skill it takes to make them and the beauty and comfort of them. My current A-Z Challenge blog is http://myheartblogstoyou.blogspot.com/2011/04/reading-les-miserable.html

I've been to the local Amish markets and they have such beautiful quilts. And, boy, are they expensive! But, I love quilts. I have entered.
